On 11-18-21, while on my solitude retreat, I had a short dream. In the dream I saw a scale. The scale wasn’t an ordinary scale. It looked like a stall, with three sides. I saw my friend, step “into” the “scale” and then she stepped out and motioned for me to step in to be weighed. I did and I saw the digital number 154. I remember saying “that can’t be right” (154 lbs. is more than I weigh in real life). Then I woke up.
The following morning as I was reading, I came across a phrase “the weight of His glory”. The phrase caught my attention, so I began to search scriptures by doing a word search on “weight” and “glory”.
What caught me by surprise was a verse that had neither of these words in the English text, but certainly brought forth a meaning to discern around with the Holy Spirit.
Let’s read the verses Matthew 10:34-42 in context first, then break down verse 38.
“Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. The one who loves a father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; the one who loves a son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Anyone who finds his life will lose it, and anyone who loses his life because of me will find it. “The one who welcomes you welcomes me, and the one who welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. And anyone who welcomes a righteous person because he’s righteous will receive a righteous person’s reward. And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.””
Matthew 10:34-42 CSB
“And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”
Matthew 10:38 CSB
The Greek word for worthy is:
axios: of weight, of worth, worthy
514 áksios (an adjective derived from aksō, "to weigh") – properly, to weigh in, assigning the matching value ("worth-to-worth"); worthy, i.e., as the assessment in keeping with how something "weighs in" on God's balance-scale of truth.
The word Axios comes from the root word “ago”:
agó: to lead, bring, carry.
be, bring forth, carry, let go.
A primary verb; properly, to lead; by implication, to bring, drive, (reflexively) go, (specially) pass (time), or (figuratively) induce -- be, bring (forth), carry, (let) go, keep, lead away, be open.
I am continuing to pray for guidance and understanding around my dream and these verses. In my younger years, these verses would have “felt heavy”. In a sense that, “I better “carry” my cross or be found unworthy”. Today, I know that God’s scale is Christ. Jesus is our worthiness. In the dream, I weighed “heavier” than my fleshly body. There is a power within us that weighs in FOR us.
Do we believe we are filled with the weight of His glory?
How is the glory manifesting in our lives and making an impact in our hearts (belief system/mindset)?
