Jesus Heals the Brokenhearted

Woman in deep Thought
Jesus Heals the Brokenhearted - Samuel's Bridge Devotional

A couple of years ago, I had a “hurt” that came as a result of a friend choosing to no longer be in a relationship with me. This friend had been a part of my life for a decade and I deeply valued our relationship.

Since our disconnect, I have diligently sought the Lord for wisdom and understanding about the situation. I asked the Lord to help me see any behavior on my part, that was “wrong” in His sight. I prayed wholeheartedly for restoration.

Recently, I was praying for this friend and a memory of a past dream she had shared with me came to mind. The memory was accompanied by a very sharp thought. I said aloud, “Lord, did you have her boot me out of her life because you wanted to strip me”?

In one instance, the power in my house went off! I mean as soon as I asked God the question, it went dark.

Moments later, the lights came back on and I heard the Lord ask me a question. He said, “what makes you think, I would ever want to strip you”?

For days, I pondered the living God‘s question. My seeking shifted from wanting to understand why we were no longer in a relationship, to why my heart would believe that my heavenly Father desired to strip me and break my heart (even if I had done something wrong).

This week, as I retreated, I read Isaiah 61 and the comforting truth washed over me. My savior came to HEAL my broken heart. I don’t have to try to fix it. I exchanged the thought of God stripping me, for the truth of Him healing me!

This week, let’s take a look at current and past hurts. Surrender thoughts from a broken heart and let them be healed by understanding your true identity in Christ. We can exchange striving for acceptance for resting in beloved identity!

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:1-3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he has anointed me to be hope for the poor, healing for the brokenhearted, and new eyes for the blind, and to preach to prisoners, ‘You are set free!’ I have come to share the message of Jubilee, for the time of God’s great acceptance has begun.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭4:18-19‬ ‭TPT‬‬
